apprentice RESOURCES week 2
You might have time to look through this before class. Below I have listed some materials you will need.
Topic: My Bedroom
This is a famous bedroom painted by Vincent Van Gogh in 1888. It was simply titled ‘The Bedroom’. He painted 3 versions of the bedroom.
For him the bedroom was loaded with meaning. This was a painting of his bedroom and it reflected everything that was about him. Everything that was there he had chosen for this room. It’s about a ‘Celebration’ of his bedroom. It was his special space.
Your bedroom is your special space.
Think about the things you have chosen for your bedroom….your bed, the covers on your bed, things on the walls, maybe a desk and a chair, your books, your special treasures, your toys from the past or the present. All of these things say something about you.
The Princess and The Pea
This is a famous Fairy Tale set in a Bedroom. It was written by Hans Christian Andersen in 1835.
It is a story I loved as a child and many people have painted pictures and illustrated it since. It is the story of a young girl and to see how sensitive she is to feeling a pea under all the mattresses and duvet’s. This was a test to see if she was truly a Royal Princess.
I love the patterns that have been created by all of the colourful mattresses and duvet’s. I am sure the princess had lots of treasures in her bedroom as well.
What you will need:
Pencil
A3 Paper
Watercolours
Paint brush
Coloured Pencils
Water Pot
Rag
Use Your Imagination:
Today’s artwork
I want you to think about the bedroom of Vincent and how he chose all the special things that were in it. Then look at the Illustrations of the Princess and the Pea. You are going to use a mash up of ideas for your painting.
Firstly, think about and name the special things you have in your bedroom. You can include these into the painting you are going to create. You do not need to include everything. You may just choose a couple of treasures that are special to you. Look at the painting at the bottom of this page. Do you have any of these toys? I have already decided what I will include.
Now think about the patterns and the colours you are going to create on your mattresses.
I will show you a couple of designs that you might use for your painting.
